Land Rover Lightweight Airportable, SORRY NOW SOLD TO WALES

    • land rover series 2a lightweight

Here for sale is another series 2a lightweight land rover on behalf of it's owner who has moved to live in USA .

He has owned the land rover for around 25 years !

Here for sale is a very nice series 2A Lightweight  in this the 50th anniversary of the Lightweight

The airportable land rover or "lightweight" as it became known was designed for transporting by helicopters and could also be carried two abreast in transport aircraft.

The Lightweight was heavier than a standard land rover but could be partly dismantled for transportation and retained standard running gear and components.

The series 2a lightweight's were built between 1968 and 1972 ..

The lightweight went on to become the standard shortwheel base vehicle for the British army as well as other armies around the world .

They were produced in 12 or 24 volt form and this one is the 12 volt GS model .This one has been upgraded to have an alternator instead of a dynamo .

( When we started the Jake Wright business all we mainly bought and sold were army lightweight's so we do have a lot of knowledge on these types of land rover )

The attention to detail is just right in every respect  and it even has all the correct pioneer tools on the tailgate , it even had original brand new wings fiitted !

The footwells are in great condition as is the bulkhead top panel and the door frames are excelent also.

The chassis is also excellent having had a new rear x member .

We do not see many original lightweight's these days as a lot of them ended up modified as off roaders , so  to see a series 2a lightweight in this condition is very rare   . This one is a real gem !

These are so very rare and the other one we have just sold is currently on its way to Malta to be part of a collection of military land rover's

Other original features on this one are are-
Push type pump for screen washers
Correct type of screen washer bottle
Metal wiper motor cover
Original type seat belts
Grey seat backs and bases

Rear bech seats
Lashing hooks in the rear
Flat type smiths heater
Long type swiveling mirror arms on wings
Strap type spare wheel mtg
Nato tow hook
Army lenses and headlamp surrounds

Army fire extinguisher

It even has the yellow bridge plate  fitted which would have been marked up with the vehicles weight so that as it approached a bridge the guard would know if the bridge was strong enough to take the vehicles weight !
